Since 1992, when it was established by Congress, the DVBIC has studied the effect of head injuries in the military. With a staff of military, civilians and contractors, the DVBIC treats patients with mild, moderate and severe TBI, develops guidelines for care, gathers data on the prevalence of TBI in the military and conducts research to help future patients, provides care coordination and educational programs.
The staff includes nurses, neuropsychologists, neurologists, medical and rehabilitative physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and a variety of other specialists. Through state-of-the-art medical care, innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs, the DVBIC has developed advanced TBI-specific evaluation, treatment and follow-up care for all military personnel, their dependents and veterans with brain injury.
